Cindy D. Salvo
Ms. Salvo began her career in the litigation department of the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Bruce A. Gaeta in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Bergen County. Ms. Salvo is a seasoned litigator who has represented a wide-range of clients -- from major financial institutions in multi-million dollar litigations to small business owners in contract disputes to individual clients injured as a result of employment discrimination or someone’s negligence. She has also represented clients before the arbitration panel of the National Association of Securities Dealers (now "FINRA"), and has defended third-party debt collector clients against individual and class actions brought pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Ms. Salvo was recently interviewed on WABC-TV Eyewitness News, and has been quoted in newspapers articles across the United States, about her representation of Faye Treadwell, the former manager of the popular 1950's musical group The Drifters. Ms. Treadwell brought litigation against the promoters of an "imposter" group that was using a name confusingly similar to The Drifters in violation of a federal injunction. Ms. Salvo won a major victory against these promoters -- the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upheld the District of New Jersey's finding of contempt and ordered the promoters to pay Ms. Treadwell all profits they earned by infringing on The Drifters' trademark.
Ms. Salvo has also published the following articles: “The Doctrine of Inequitable Coercion Under Delaware Law,” “Liability for Persons Signing SEC Disclosure Documents,” and “Technological Dinosaur: Why It’s Time to Update the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act,” – all in the New York Law Journal. She has also published “Collection Efforts and the 30-day Validation Period” in the May/June 2006 issue of Collection Advisor magazine.
Before becoming an attorney, Ms. Salvo earned a masters’ degree in psychology from the New School for Social Research in New York City. She was also the founder and President of a national special events company which organized fashion shows and pageants to promote petite sizes for women. Ms. Salvo thus knows more than just the law – she also has a practical, working knowledge of what it means to be a small business owner. Her creative business solutions reflect this first-hand knowledge and experience. Moreover, her degree in psychology provides Ms. Salvo with a unique insight into litigation, as she understands both the legal and the emotional issues that are so often involved.
Ms. Salvo has an "AV Preeminent" rating from Martindale-Hubbell -- its highest rating.
