Cindy D. Salvo

Ms. Salvo began her career in the Litigation Department of the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.  After more than a decade of working at large New York and New Jersey law firms, where she was trained by some of the top legal minds in this country, she founded The Salvo Law Firm, P.C. in 2006.  Ms. Salvo is a dynamic, talented litigator who has appeared in the federal and state courts of New Jersey and New York.  She has represented a wide range of clients- from major financial institutions in multi-million dollar litigations to small business owners in contract disputes to individual clients injured as a result of employment discrimination or someone’s negligence.

Cindy also practices in the area of trademark/copyright infringement. She has represented Faye Treadwell - the former manager and the owner of the trademarked musical group “The Drifters” - for many years in litigation with unscrupulous promoters who were infringing on “The Drifters” trademark.  She won a major victory against these promoters when the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit upheld the District of New Jersey’s finding of contempt, and ordered the promoters to pay Ms. Treadwell all unlawful profits earned from their infringement.  Ms. Salvo has been interviewed on WABC-TV Eyewitness News, and in newspapers all across the United States in connection with The Drifters’ litigation.

Indeed, Ms. Salvo has become well-known in the music industry in connection with the “war” on “imposter entertainment” (performing groups who pretend to include original band members, but actually have no connection with the original group).  Her efforts in enjoining imposter entertainment has provided assistance to the “Truth in Music” Committee of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Foundation with its efforts to get legislation passed on the state and federal level, to stop imposter entertainment.  Currently, the so-called “Truth In Music” law has been passed in 33 states.

Ms. Salvo also has a very active practice defending the nation’s debt collection agencies against individual and class actions brought pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”).  She counsels debt collection professionals on FDCPA compliance issues, and publishes a Blog

Cindy also represents clients in arbitrations before the Financial Industry Regulator Authority (“FINRA”), and regularly handles employment litigation, representing both employers and employees.

Ms. Salvo has published the following articles, “The Doctrine of Inequitable Coercion Under Delaware Law,” “Liability for Persons Signing SEC Disclosure Documents,” and “Technological Dinosaur:  Why It’s Time To Update The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act” - all in the New York Law Journal.  She has also published “Collection Efforts and the 30-Day Validation Period” in Collection Advisor magazine.  Cindy is also a co-author of the newly-published “Untying the Knot:  Your Guide to a Successful New Jersey Divorce.”

Before becoming an attorney, Cindy earned a master’s degree in psychology.  She was also the founder and President of a national special events company which organized fashion shows and pageants to promote petite sizes for women.  Cindy thus knows more than just the law - she also has a practical, working knowledge of what it means to be a small business owner.  Her creative business solutions reflect this first-hand knowledge and experience.  Moreover, her graduate degree in psychology provides her with a unique insight into litigation, as she understands both the legal and emotional issues that are so often involved.  Her graduate degree also helps make her a terrific negotiator!

Ms. Salvo has an “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell - its highest rating.
